As we continue to grow, we're looking for a dedicated Junior Graphic Designer to join our team. To support the creative department in the delivery of the design and creative elements of our clients’ PR & marketing campaigns as well as supporting our in-house creative development. This is a graduate/entry level role.
Please note that the position is in-house at our Stockport office for the first 6 months, with the option for hybrid working on successful completion of the 6 month probationary period.
Main duties
The role of the Junior Graphic Designer will be varied to include a range of creative and design work to serve the needs of our clients and our own internal creative direction.
Duties will include:
Creating compelling designed documents (such as brochures, whitepapers, guides), in line with client brand guidelines & in accordance with creative briefs, to bring written work to life.
Creating eye-catching social media templates and other visual branded graphics in line with client brand guidelines & in accordance with creative briefs.
Amending and updating existing design files to provide scalable templates for future work.
Contributing to the development of brand strategy, including supporting brand workshops alongside the Creative Lead and carrying out brand identity discovery.
Supporting brand and visual refinement for clients, developing assets that execute brand identity.
Creating a range of graphic and visual elements, which could range from logo development through to illustrations, technical drawings and diagrams, to suit various platforms and purposes.
Creating and developing a range of assets to communicate Smith Goodfellow’s own visual identity.
Developing and maintaining a working knowledge of design, PR and marketing principles and specifically how to apply them in practice within the construction industry.
These will be the core duties of the job but we are looking for someone who will make this role their own. Additional duties
Whilst everyone on our team has defined job roles, we also work collaboratively on almost every aspect of the business, from general admin and internal campaigns to contributing to business wide decisions. From time to time, you may be asked to undertake additional duties. This could include things like:
Planning and supporting internal PR & marketing campaigns to support the continued growth of the business.
Creating internal resources and contributing to internal training.
General administration tasks around the office.
These duties and responsibilities may change from time to time according to the needs of the business.
To be successful in this role, you'll need:
A compelling portfolio of work over a wide range of creative projects. (A college/university or personal projects portfolio is fine if you don’t have commercial experience.)
A passion and enthusiasm for design.
Strong graphic design skills and ability to confidently use the Adobe Creative Suite including InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator.
Knowledge of layouts, graphic fundamentals, typography and colour principles.
Knowledge of file formats and preparing for print/digital applications.
Basic understanding of how to edit/retouch images.
Ability to provide a rationale for design choices and creatively work towards campaign objectives.
Ability to work to brief and accurately apply brand guidelines.
Excellent eye for detail.
Confident in using Excel, Word and PowerPoint.
Ability to receive and act on feedback.
Highly organised with strong time management skills and the ability to cope with several projects at once.
Strong communication and presentation skills - both written and verbally.
Independent but enjoy working in a team and have a flexible approach to working.
Adaptable and enthusiastic.
It would also be advantageous to have:
Basic understanding of motion graphics or video editing skills (Adobe Premiere Pro)
Familiarity with HTML, CSS and web platforms such as WordPress and Webflow (or an interest in learning these skills)
Working knowledge of a range of Social Media platforms (LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Pinterest etc.) and their requirements for visual assets
Familiarity with Canva and/or Adobe Express
Education, Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor's degree, NVQ Level 4, similar professional qualification or equivalent experience.
